WORCA trail maintenance day Saturday

What: SCREENING MAMMOGRAPHY The Screening Mammography Program of BC will be in the area this week. Get screened at the Whistler Health Centre until May 16.

What: WORCA TRAIL MAINTENANCE DAY The annual Whistler Off-Road Cycling Association’s trail mainenance day begins with a fortifying breakfast. Some tools will be provided or bring your own. Any questions or suggestions email trails@worca.com.

What: MAYFAIR FESTIVAL The Cedar Valley School is hosting its annual MayFair Festival with a salmon BBQ, maypole dances and songs, children’s crafts and activities and more. For info call 604-898-3287.

What: ASTRONOMY FROM THE HILLTOPS Join astronomy popularizer Ken Hewitt-White for an evening of personal reflections on night sky observing. He will recount stories with the aid of colour slides. Admission is by donation to the Whistler Naturalist Society.

What: FUNDRAISER CARWASH Help the Grade 6/7 children of Spring Creek Elementary raise money at their carwash, hot dog sale and bake sale in Function Junction.

What: FOLLOW IN THE FOOTSTEPS Whistler’s renowned black bear researcher Michael Allen will give a presentation on Whistler’s black bears, looking at trends in adaptive behaviour and personality. Tickets are $10/$4 from the musuem in advance or $15/$5 at the door. Call 604-932-2019. The event is sponsored by the Whistler Museum.

What: BOTTLE DRIVE FUNDRAISER The graduating class of Whistler Secondary School will be hitting the streets to collect empties for their bottle drive fundraiser. Put empties at the end of your driveway, drop off to grads at the depot or call ahead to 604-932-4063.

What: FIREFIGHTERS CARWASH FUNDRAISER The Whistler Firefighter’s Association is holding a carwash to support a local resident who is walking for breast cancer this fall. Each wash is $10 and all proceeds go towards breast cancer research. The day of the wash depends on the weather over the May long weekend. Look for the truck near the Starbucks in Marketplace.
