What: ACCOMMODATION SECTOR WORKSHOP The Whistler Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Whistler Centre for Sustainability hosts an Accommodation Sector Workshop that will tell people how Whistler’s accommodation sector can hold a “competitive advantage” that supports the principles of sustainability.

When: Thursday January 8, 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Where: Chamber Boardroom

What: FOYER GALLERY OPENING RECEPTION The Foyer Gallery will have an opening reception to commemorate a month of artist exhibits. They’ll include works by Wanda Doyle and Jan Phelan.

What: AVALANCHE AWARENESS DAYS Join BC Park Rangers for demonstrations of avalanche beacon and safety equipment demonstrations, rescue dog demonstration searches and much more.

Where: The Red Heather Shelter in the Diamond Head Area of Garibaldi Provincial Park

What: CARDA TRAINING COURSE The Canadian Avalanche Dog and Rescue Team is having its annual training course on Whistler Mountain. Dogs play an important role in saving people from avalanches.

When: Monday January 12 to Friday January 16

Where: Whistler Mountain – various locations

What: FREE BOARD GAMES NIGHT The Whistler Public Library presents a free board games night. Ages 16 and up are welcome. Play Monopoly, read a book and just have some fun!

What: FIRESIDE CHAT WITH THE MAYOR Whistler Mayor Ken Melamed presents a fireside budget chat and all Whistler residents are invited. It’s an informal opportunity for residents to learn more about municipal finances and ask questions of the mayor.

When: Monday January 12, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.

What: PARENT EDUCATION EVENING The Whistler Alcohol and Drug Committee presents an education evening for parents. Sea to Sky Comunity Services Drug Prevention and Education workers and others will present a discussion on drug facts, information and trends to help youth make healthy decisions.

What: THE CELLIST OF SARAJEVO: A READING BY STEVEN GALLOWAY BC author Steven Gallowy reads from his critically-acclaimed novel, which was nominated for the 2008 Scotiabank Giller Prize.

What: MANAGING MENTAL HEALTH IN THE WORKPLACE The Whistler Chamber of Commerce presents a workshop about mental health in the workplace. It’ll show how to identify mental health issues such as distress and burnout. Cost $15 for members, $25 for non-members. GST not included.
