We hope you enjoyed the short stretch of sunshine this past week, because Whistler could be in for a very wet couple of days.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement late Wednesday morning as B.C.'s South Coast and Vancouver Island prepares to get pummeled by "an unseasonably strong Pacific front."

Heavy rainfall is expected to hit Whistler and Howe Sound later on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 1, according to the alert.

Whistler, Howe Sound and northern areas of Metro Vancouver may experience scattered showers throughout the day on Thursday, "ahead of the main plume of moisture associated with the front." Whistler can expect heavier rainfall to hit Thursday afternoon and Thursday evening as the front moves eastward, according to Environment Canada, before ending Thursday night.

On Friday, Whistler could see showers with a risk of thunderstorms and "gusty winds" left in the front's wake.

The heaviest precipitation is expected to begin over west and inland Vancouver Island overnight on Wednesday, spreading east Vancouver Island and over the Sunshine Coast on Thursday morning before intensifying on Thursday afternoon.
