The open house on the draft plan of the Garibaldi Park Management Plan takes place on Thursday, Dec. 6 at the Whistler Conference Centre, providing the public an opportunity to comment on ideas regarding the area of the park surrounding Whistler.

Currently, the draft plan supports the creation of a hut network on the Spearhead Traverse and heli-skiing within the area, but is opposed to reintroducing mountain biking to the Singing Pass area. The Whistler Off-Road Cycling Association has created its own proposal for allowing uphill-only biking on the Singing Pass trail and then building a downhill to Cheakamus Lake. They are encouraging their 1,800 members to come out and voice their support for the plan at the Dec. 6 meeting.

WORCA holds special meeting to recruit directors

The Whistler Off-Road Cycling Association is hosting a Special General Meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 4 to vote to amend the club's bylaws to allow for the creation of two new directorships, as well as to expand the group's mandate to include trail building as well as maintenance.

WORCA is looking to divide the Director of Race portfolio into two, creating a Director of XC/Toonies to oversee the 20-plus Toonie Rides sanctioned by the club each year, and a Director of Downhill/Special Events to oversee WORCA's involvement in the weekly Phat Wednesday Series and another downhill events, as well as special races like the women's only Charlie's Angels race held this past summer.

As well, a new Director of Fundraising position would be created to oversee the annual bike swap, apply for grants and look at sponsorship and fundraising opportunities for the organization.

The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. and takes place at Legends in Creekside.
