The Sprite Park Rider Sessions continue this Sunday, April 3 with a halfpipe event on Blackcomb.
The contest is open to skiers and snowboarders of all ages and abilities, and as always all participants are eligible to win from a list of draw prizes that includes Atomic skis, an Atomic snowboard, and other items from Nintendo, Showcase Snowboards and Glacier Shop.
Advance registration is $20 at any Whistler-Blackcomb Guest Relations or Ski School Sales location, or $25 on the day of the event at the Rendezvous Lodge.
Helmets are mandatory and mouthguards are strongly recommended.
After this Sunday there are just two Sprite Park Rider events remaining – a slopestyle on May 8 and a rail jam on May 15, both on Whistler Mountain.
Mom’s in the gates
The annual Mom’s Mountain Classic is this Monday, April 4, with a new theme, The Women of James Bond. The race day includes a morning coffee, race practice, a match-time race, lunch, and an après ski party at the Crab Shack.
The match-time race format means you get one run and guess your time for the second run. Whoever is closest to their guess wins.
The cost is $35 including morning coffee, lunch and après, and all participants are eligible to win a draw for a pair of Atomic skis.
You can register in advance at Whistler-Blackcomb Guest Relations or on the morning of the race from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the GLC.
Can’t get away? Just for moms, the Mountain Classic also comes with 20 per cent off Daycare and Toddler programs, and 50 per cent off other Whistler Kids programs.
Pemberton dirt track opens on Saturday
The Green River Riding Club is opening the Pemberton dirt track for the season on Saturday, April 2, starting at 9 a.m.
"Members spent the last week and the long weekend grooming the track, getting everything ready, and it’s in perfect shape," said GRRC spokesperson Shaun Greenaway. The club will open from 5 p.m. to sundown Wednesday to Friday, and from 9 a.m. to sundown on the weekends. Memberships are required, although a $20 drop-in is available for non-members. Rates are $200 per person for the season and $150 for youth. Returning members will also receive a discount.
The club will also be accepting registration for the first motocross clinic of the season, which will run April 23-24 with sessions for everyone from beginners to advanced riders. There will also be a women’s only clinic on the Saturday.
The coaches are still being lined up, but Greenaway is expecting some of the top riders in Canada to lead the sessions.

The GRRC also hosted a successful fundraiser for the track at the Longhorn recently, raising $1,900 to cover maintenance and operating costs for 2005.

In last week’s story on the B.C. Freestyle Ski Championships, we noted that Keltie Hicks from the Blackcomb Freestyle Club won the youth women’s single moguls. That gold went to Kiera Leung of the Vancouver Freestyle Ski Club.
