Valley ride still a dare, no longer a contest

The fifth annual Beyond the Valleycliffe of the Dolls ride will still take place on some of Squamish’s toughest but most spectacular singletrack, but this year the dares and the competition will be gone – insurance being just one of the reasons.

This year’s ride is a group hike-a-bike and ride on the five peaks area of Valleycliffe, "on technical trails you’d never find on your own," said organizer Bryan Raiser.

There will be a mid-ride fruit booth to re-energize once again, and for the second year all proceeds from the event will go towards the local Search and Rescue. There will also be an after party at the Howe Sound Brewing Company with prizes.

To take part you have to be a member of SORCA, WORCA or another Cycling B.C.-affiliated club, and the cost is $25 in advance and $35 on the day of the event.

Riders should be wearing armour and be comfortable riding technical trails with lots of granite sections.

Participants will meet on Saturday, June 3 at the at the top of Westway Avenue in Squamish. The after party will take place at 4 p.m. and is open to all ages.

You can register in advance at Corsa Cycles, Tantalus Bike Shop, Evolution or at the trailhead.
