Whistler team takes to the ice

The Whistler International All Star Hockey tournament kicked off last week with the senior boys division and continues through July 16. The first Whistler Winterhawks team to compete in the Atom Minor category takes to the ice on Wednesday, July 5.

Games are on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. versus the Colorado Outlaws, at 6:30 p.m. versus the Cloverdale Broncos, on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. versus the Texas Titans, and at 5 p.m. versus the Surrey Titans. The playoffs are on Friday, starting at 4 p.m. for the bronze.

Spud Run on Saturday

For the past eight years Pemberton has started Canada Day with a 7 km run through the village. Registration for the ninth annual Spud Run starts at 8 a.m. and the race gets underway at 8:30 a.m. The start and finish are at the Pemberton Community Centre.

The cost is $12 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under and $20 for a family of four, with all proceeds going to the Laoyam Eagles dragon boat team and the Pemberton Valley Trails Association.

Walkers are welcome, but organizers are asking participants to leave their dogs at home.
