What: Squamish Mountain Bike Festival / Test of Metal

Although the Test of Metal mountain bike race has been sold out for more than two months and you need to be a carded racer to get in, there are still a lot of reasons to drop by the Squamsih Mountain Bike Festival this year. There are the Chariot Races, the Teen Test of Metal and Mini Metal, the Test of Metal Trials Competition, and the Rockstar Invitational Freeride Dash for Cash. When: Thursday, June 24. Sign-in starts at 5:30 p.m., race starts at 6:30 p.m.

What: Iron Lung Series presents Comfortably Numb

Where: Starts at Wedgemont parking lot and finishes by Lost Lake

When: June 27, 9 a.m. start.

Iron Lung Events is hosting a trail run on Whistler’s new Comfortably Numb trail, a 25 km trail run with an estimated 5,000 vertical feet of climbing. This mountain bike trail is almost all singletrack, and includes some challenging technical sections. You can sign-up online or download an entry form at www.ironlung.ca.

What: European Football School soccer camp

Where: Myrtle Philip lower fields

When: July 5-9

Back for a fourth season, the Whistler Youth Soccer Club is now taking registration for the European Football School, which is led by coaches with national and international playing experience. Contact avajanyk@telus.net to register or drop by a league game on Saturday to pick up a form from any of the coaches. Kids as young as five and as old as 18 will be able to take part.

What: Junior golf program with David Leadbetter Academy

Where: Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Course

When: July 12 and 13 at 4:30 p.m., and continuing for six weeks.

Spaces are filling up fast for these six-week junior programs at the new David Leadbetter Golf Academy at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. Kids 8-12 will meet on Mondays, and 13-18 year-olds will meet on Tuesdays. Contact the David Leadbetter Golf Academy at 604-938-2092, ext. 2553 for more information or to sign up.

What: Willies Ride

Where: Meet at Wild Willies store at Nesters

When: Mondays at 6 p.m.

Join the Wild Willies crew for Monday night rides – not races – on some of Whistler’s best singletrack trails. Groups will be broken up according to their riding ability and guided by local mountain bikers.

What: Rugby

Where: Whistler Secondary school field

When: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m.

Join the Whistler Hoary Marmots RFC throughout the summer as they train twice a week; no experience necessary, men and women welcome. It’s a great way to get in shape for casual players, and there will be opportunities to play in exhibition matches and tournaments throughout the season.

What: Ultimate

Where: Myrtle Philip school fields

When: Mondays and Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The Ultimate season is underway with drop-in games and free beginner clinics on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Towards the end of June the regular season will begin with league games on Wednesdays. Mondays will remain the drop-in night. No experience is necessary, just bring some turf cleats and both a light and dark T-shirt.
