So you want to be a pro snowboarder…

Everybody has to start somewhere. You could start next weekend at the Ripzone Snowboard Invitational, which leads off this year’s Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival.

There are still spots for men and women available in the Superpipe Qualifier, which takes place on April 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those who are selected for the finals will compete the following day between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. against some of the top snowboarders in the world, including Olympic gold medalist Ross Powers.

To enter, competitors can visit the Web site at www.wssf.com, and follow the Ripzone Snowboard Invitational link to the Criteria/Request for Invitation Section, and fill out the form. There is a $60 fee for all qualifiers.

The format is an open jam session, which means competitors have a set amount of time to take as many runs as they can, with only their best run counting. There will also be a competitor-judged SuperHit competition where each competitor performs a single trick out of the pipe.
