A new daycare opened up in Spring Creek last week, easing the pressure on the demand for childcare in Whistler.

The Whistler Blackcomb Foundation Spring Creek Children's Centre is a 5,000 square foot facility with the capacity to care for 65 children per day.

The centre will also be offering pre-school and after-school programs.

Local architects Murdoch and Company of Whistler designed the building.

The land was donated by Intrawest and other financial assistance came from the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation, Intrawest, the Resort Municipality of Whistler, the Province of British Columbia, Mr. Glenn Houghton and Mr. Larry Houghton.

Other community support came in the form of donations of time, materials and labour and from the Festival of Lights Foundation.

The Dandelion Daycare Society, a non-profit society that provides licensed childcare, is operating the new centre. With this new site and the existing Whistler Children's Centre, the Dandelion staff will be caring for up to 139 children per day.
