Whistler Fire Department representatives believe no foul play was involved in a Spruce Grove house fire last week. Fire Chief Rob Whitton said the single-family dwelling was empty when it caught fire in the early morning of Friday, Sept. 24.

"The crews responded and were called out at around 1:20 a.m. and I believe the final crew left there around 8:30 in the morning," he said. "We had 21 firefighters and one chief officer on site."

Whitton said while the investigation is ongoing, the cause of the fire was likely accidental. The majority of the house's structure was saved but the interior suffered extensive heat and smoke damage. The fire lightly damaged the exteriors of two neighbouring buildings.
