Squamish 2010 celebrations

Three-day multicultural festival

Squamish is Wild at Art with three days of art, music, theatre and children’s entertainment February 24 to 26 at the Squamish Adventure Centre.

The weekend includes mainstage performances from the Italian-Canadian Comedia dell’arte troupe Bella Luna, the humour and east-meets-west music of children's entertainer Rick Scott, and the hilarious buffoonery of the Funny Circus Stuff duo.

Cultural performances will also take centre stage with traditional dance and music from the Squamish Nation, the Indian tabla and bhangra from the Johal family and Scottish piping from the Highland Pipe Band and Highland dancers.

The kids’ workshop tent will keep little hands busy with rug hooking, bannock making and hat making to just-for-fun art competitions and folk dancing workshops.

Local talent shines with performances from Roadtrip Productions’ "Our Favourite Broadway" and Between Shifts Theatre’s "Fawlty Towers", as well as readings from the Squamish Writers’ Group, storytime at the Squamish Public Library and tales from the Squamish Nation.

More than 100 Sea to Sky artists will be showcased at the Artisan’s Stroll.

Festivities will kick off with an intimate piano concert from Janina Fialkowska Feb. 24 at 8 p.m. at the Eagle Eye Theatre as part of the Wild at Art celebrations. Escape into Schubert, Mendelssohn and Chopin for an evening. Tickets are $20/$15/$10.

All other Wild at Art events are free.

Activities begin Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. Saturday workshops wrap up at 3 p.m. and shows at 5 p.m. Sunday workshops finish at 1:30 p.m. and shows at 3 p.m.
