Squamish business Tiipz wins national recognition

Online marketing tool turns heads

A Squamish-based technology business was recognized as one of the top new start-up companies in Canada at this year's GROW 2011 Conference, held Aug. 17 to 19 in Vancouver. Tiipz, an online marketing tool created by Tristorm Product Design, was chosen from 65 applications to be one of the top four start-up technology businesses included in all of Canada.

"It is important to recognize local business success," said Squamish mayor Greg Gardner. "Our lifestyle, relative affordability, location and talented workforce are attracting new business to Squamish."

The GROW conferences bring together leading entrepreneurs, thinkers, influencers, and investors from Silicon Valley and Canada to inspire innovation and entrepreneurship.

Dan McRae, economic sustainability coordinator for the District of Squamish, attended the second annual conference to promote Squamish opportunities nationally and internationally.

"It was great to be there to support our local business and meet face to face with government and private sector individuals who can help us here in Squamish," said McRae.

BC Stats Community Facts data shows that between 2008-2010, the rate of growth for firms with no employees in Squamish outpaced the provincial rate by approximately nine per cent. During the same period the rate of growth for firms with employees outpaced the provincial rate by approximately five per cent.
