So far, it's been shaping up to be a good year for Squamish mixed martial arts.

Local fighter Jamey-Lyn Horth has announced she has signed to TKO MMA, a Montreal-based organization that has served as a launching pad for high-profile fighters like Georges St-Pierre.

The promotion also has ties to the UFC — in 2016, it was announced that the UFC's digital platform would broadcast TKO's fights.

"I'm feeling great," said Horth. "I'm really excited. I've always been like a high-level competing athlete so I know what it takes to be at that level."

Horth said she made the switch over because the promotion she was previously signed to, Battlefield Fight League, or BFL, was having trouble finding her a good match.

While the BFL has brought over opponents from the U.S. to take her on, it had been hard arranging a good fight lately.

"They just couldn't get anybody for me," said Horth. "They've been having a hard time finding women and just been a very difficult thing for a lot of women in weight categories throughout Canada to find opponents."

Complicating the matter is the fact that fighters signed to different promotions generally can't fight each other.

As a result, BFL released Horth from her contract, and she then decided to make the leap to TKO.

There are at least two fighters in her category, and it's anticipated more women will be joining, she said.

Horth is signed to a three-fight or one-year contract — she'll be in the league for whichever of the two options comes sooner.

Her first fight in TKO is coming up soon, but Horth doesn't seem to be intimidated by that prospect.

"It's business as usual," said Horth.

"Just another day, another platform, you know? We're all going in with the same outlook. We're just going to go in and we're going to pick apart and win these fights."

She'll be fighting on May 24 at Centre Robert Guertin in Gatineau, Quebec. The fight starts at 7:30 ET.
