Squamish Mayor Rob Kirkham is seeking a second term in office.

"It has been an honour and a privilege for me to serve this amazing community for the past three years as your Mayor and I am asking for your support to re-elect me for another term," Kirkham said in a release circulated Sept. 2.

Some highlights of Kirkham's time as mayor have been the transformation of the Squamish downtown with a new waterfront park and rejuvenated Stan Clarke Park as a venue for events, festivals and celebrations, the release said.

The district has also embraced tourism initiatives such as the Sea to Sky Gondola and the Squamish Valley Music Festival in recent years, and partnered with community groups such as SORCA to fund trail maintenance and the mountain bike skills park.

"I believe the last few years have seen a real transformation of Squamish and we have become the community that many families and individuals choose to call home," Kirkham said.

Kirkham moved to Squamish in 1988 with his wife Donna and three children. Since then he has held many leadership positions in the community, including Chamber of Commerce president, chair of the Squamish Community Foundation and municipal councillor.

"With the experience I have gained and the leadership I have shown over the last few years I am asking the people of Squamish to re-elect me as Mayor," Kirkham said in the release.

Municipal elections will be held province-wide on Saturday, Nov. 15.
