Squamish teen still missing

Police Briefs: Rash of Whistler bike thefts; Squamish police uncover trove of stolen goods

An 18-year-old Squamish man went missing this week, worrying family and friends after he failed to show up for work.

And today, June22, the Squamish RCMP is officially asking for public assistance in locating Nile Sinnes.

"Sinnes told family he was heading to the mountains but his intended location was unknown," states and RCMP release. "Sinnes is an avid outdoorsman and is known to travel to various areas in British Columbia to camp. Sinnes long absence without contact with family or friends is out of character."

Anyone with information as to the whereabout of Sinnes or have seen the truck he is believed to be driving, please contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100 or your local police agency.

Posting on social media, a friend said Sinnes was last seen Sunday night around 9 p.m. at his home in the Brackendale area. He was due to show up for work at his job in Whistler on Monday morning.

“Our friend is missing and this is completely out of character,” wrote Facebook user Ally Marie.

The missing teen is described as being of average build, around 183 centimetres tall (six feet), with short blonde hair. He was reportedly driving a beige early-2000s model F150 truck with wood panelling on the tailgate and a bumper sticker reading, “Save a Cow, Eat a Vegetarian.”

Rash of bike thefts reported in Whistler

Local police responded to a series of reported bike thefts over the past week, and are urging residents to take the appropriate steps to keep their bikes safe.

On the evening of June 11, Whistler RCMP received a report of two bikes that were stolen from Skier’s Plaza. The two suspects were caught on security footage and are described as a female, approximately 170 cm (five-foot-seven) in height, with a slim build, blonde hair, tattoo on her left leg and wearing a red sweater, white shirt, short jean shorts, a Toronto Blue Jays baseball cap, blue shoes and sunglasses. The male suspect is described as being roughly 178 cm (five-foot-ten), with a slim build wearing a white and black long-sleeve shirt, tan shorts, black shoes, brown hat and sunglasses.

The stolen bikes are a silver and blue 2009 Norco Team DH model with red handlebars, and a basket on the front. The second bike is a lime-green Rocky Mountain Flatline with lime-green grips and RockShox Boxxer fork.

On June 13, another bike was reported missing from a residence on Northlands Boulevard. The bike was left unlocked and it’s believed it was taken overnight.

It’s described as a black, six-speed women’s Norco Storm model, with red accents and a medium-sized frame.

The next day, a GT Fury Expert Edition mountain bike was reportedly stolen from outside a Spearhead Drive residence sometime between midnight and 11 a.m.

It’s described as being blue, red and white in colour. Also on June 14, a women’s mountain bike was allegedly stolen from the stairways to the left of the lower entrance to Tommy Africa’s nightclub.

It’s described as a black, 11-speed Commencal Meta SXV3 with a black and white Chromag Juniper saddle, a black Chromag sticker on the top tube, and a RockShox Lyrik RC fork.

In the height of bike season, Whistler RCMP is urging the public to always ensure their bikes are locked and secured out of view, and to record their bike’s serial number in their own records, or through online services such as 529 Garage, a mobile app and website that makes it easier to track down lost or stolen bikes.

Arrest leads Squamish police to U-Haul full of stolen goods

A routine call led police to a trove of stolen goods this week, according to Squamish RCMP.

On the evening of June 12, Mounties got a report of a man who was attempting to steal a bike from a Government Road residence. The eyewitness report led police to a nearby U-Haul truck that contained items belonging to a Swiss couple that had visited Shannon Falls earlier that day. The stolen goods were subsequently returned.

A 42-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, both residents of Surrey, were arrested. They now face charges of mischief, possession of break-and-enter tools, and possession of stolen property.
