Still time to register for Kids of Steel triathlon

Three age groups

There’s still time to register for the second annual Kids of Steel Triathlon, which is taking place on Saturday, May 27 at Meadow Park Sport Centre.

There is no day of event registration, but you can sign up until midnight on Thursday, May 25.

There are five different age groups, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, and 16 and over, each racing different distances.

Kids 8-11 will swim 100 metres, bike 4.5 km and run 1.5 km. Kids 12-13 will swim 300 metres, bike 10 km and run 3 km, and kids 14 and over will swim 500 metres, bike 14 km and run 4 km. The swim takes place in the pool, the bike on a marked off section of Alta Lake Road and the run on the Valley Trail. Kids under 14 are not allowed clip pedals or aerobars.

The cost is $40 to enter, plus $5 for insurance if a youth is not a TriBC member.

Participants that have already signed on can pick up their race packages on Friday, May 26 between noon and 6 p.m. at Snow Covers, or on Saturday between 7 and 7:30 a.m. at Meadow Park. There is also a mandatory bike and helmet check at the same times.

The top athletes in each category will win medals and prizes, and all participants are eligible to win draw prizes donated by event sponsors.

Organizers are still looking for some volunteers to help the event run smoothly. Contact Tracy Torrell at tgreen@direct.ca.
