The Pemberton Speedway held its first races this past Saturday, kicking off a series of seven scheduled events at the track over the summer.

Pemberton Stock Car Club members have invested a lot of time and money recently, resurfacing the track to make it faster and more durable for the club's growing membership.

Also new this year, the club has added a new Hornets race class, on top of the Bomber Class and Hobby Class, and will be raffling off a "race-ready" mustang that can race in the Hornets class. Tickets are $20, and are available from club members or through www.pembertonspeedway.com.

The next race is on June 27, with racers checking in at 3 p.m. and the racing getting underway at 4 p.m., followed by a race on July 18.

The club is hosting its first Night Race on Aug. 8, starting at 8 p.m. under the lights.

There is a two-day event on August 29-30, starting a 4 p.m. Saturday and noon on Sunday, a 4 p.m. race on September 12, and a second two-day race on September 26 to 27.

The club will also host races on August 8 as part of a tri-club event with the Green River Motocross Track, and the 4X4 club. Motocross runs from 9 a.m. to noon, there's a 4X4 rally from noon to 6 p.m., and the stock cars will run under the lights at 8 p.m.
