In a town where you can expect breasts to be flashed or at least soaked in a white T-shirt on any night at a dance club, and parties with ladies covered only in paint, people don’t need a stage for an excuse to expose their exhibitionist tendencies.
Women are wild, daring and not shy about flashing their mountain-worked bodies. Of course the gamut of a sideshow on the Village Stroll at 2 a.m. is dependant on the amount of alcohol intake.
Manager Paul McNaught promises to have plenty on hand at the 4 th Annual Boot Ballet Amateur Night Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Boot Pub, where Whistler’s only exotic dance hall offers a stage for female wild childs to bump and grind.
Boot Ballet pros will first get the evening rolling followed by anyone willing to peel off their clothes in front of hundreds of locals they will inevitably run into again.
Cash prizes will be handed out. Last year more than 15 women strutted their stuff to a packed house. Ladies are asked to sign up early by calling 604-932-3338.
On-stage booty shakin’ is always met with more than an attentive audience. Last year, lineups for the show spilled out the door and into the parking lot, making amateur night one of the most popular Boot shows of the season.
So what makes a good strip show?
Is it all about breasts? Flexibility? Or just downright dirtiness?
Pique Newsmagazine asked White Lightening Boy Band Burlesque dancers for some tips. With the exception of dancer Thundar baring all at the Garfinkel’s show last month, the boys keep, well… the boys, safely out of sight, but still can get hundreds of women screaming for more.
So what’s their secret?
Dan "Gunner" Boyton: I think it's confidence and having fun on the stage. I don’t think it is any particular thing that you do, or such, apart from being yourself. As long as you can put your personality out there that is the thing that really excites people… You can do anything you want on stage as long as everyone is laughing with you. If you try too hard, it can be quite a turn off.
Simon "Thundar": I think red lights help and white silk everywhere…. It’s always an enjoyable night for all ages – between 21 and 31. Open your mind and your eyes will follow.
Chili "White Lightening" Thom: Working the crowd, and definitely the initial outfit and impact: it sets the whole mood for how the show is going to go. If you come out looking half ass, it doesn’t matter what you do: you’ll have a half ass show. If you come out in a strong costume, you will be able to rock the crowd more.
