A Surrey man is recovering after he was allegedly attacked after a dispute on the May long weekend, the resort's second stabbing in a 24-hour span.

Less than a day after the stabbing death of Burnaby's Luka Gordic, a 19-year-old Surrey man suffered multiple wounds late Sunday, May 17, following an altercation on Whistler Way.

"That incident was in relation to a dispute between two groups," said Whistler RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair. "They had some common associates, so this wasn't a random attack."

The groups reportedly ventured to a relatively secluded area of the village in order to fight away from the heavy police presence that is common on the holiday, LeClair said. That's when the victim was stabbed multiple times, police said.

RCMP has spoken with an associate of both of the groups involved, LeClair added, but so far no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 604-932-3044.

May long weekend by the numbers

As per usual, the May long weekend kept police busy this year, resulting in a litany of tickets for minor offences.

On Friday, May 15, police lodged a total of five people in cells, for charges ranging from drinking in public to resisting arrest.

The first night of the long weekend also saw three roadside prohibitions, and two no-case drug seizures, thanks to Whistler RCMP's roadblock by Function Junction.

Police issued seven alcohol-related provincial violation tickets on Friday, in addition to 56 bylaw tickets, the majority of which were for open liquor.

A total of six individuals were lodged in cells the following day - three for public intoxication and three for drug possession.

There were six driving offences recorded, including one immediate 90-day roadside prohibition.

Officers issued 11 provincial violation tickets on top of that, including seven for presenting false identification, and 44 bylaw tickets, mostly for liquor violations.

On Sunday, eight people were detained at the detachment - half a dozen for fighting and two for causing a disturbance.

Five provincial traffic tickets were also issued, as well as one for open liquor. Police also tallied nine bylaw tickets.

Maple Ridge man beaten for drug money, police say

A Maple Ridge man reportedly fell victim to a group of strangers he thought were trying to be friendly, but turns out they were just after his cash.

At approximately 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 17, police were flagged down by a pedestrian who notified them of an apparent altercation near Day Lot 1.

Officers arrived to find a 19-year-old man with injuries to his head and face. He then told RCMP he was "befriended by some strangers," and went to a nearby bank machine to take out money to purchase drugs. The group of males then demanded he hand over the cash, and allegedly assaulted him.

A man at the scene, who refused to provide his name, told police he tried to break up the fight, although Mounties believe he is friends with the attackers.

The investigation is ongoing.

Richmond woman faces numerous charges following dispute with ex

A Richmond woman is facing several charges after a dispute with an ex turned sour at a local hotel.

At around 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, staff at a Whistler hotel notified police of a verbal dispute at reception between a man and a woman.

Upon arrival, police discovered the 29-year-old female causing a disturbance at the front desk, and learned, after speaking with her ex-boyfriend, that she had damaged property.

She was subsequently arrested for mischief and causing a disturbance.

A further search uncovered suspected cocaine in her possession. Police also learned the woman was in possession of her ex's iPhone.

After being searched more thoroughly at the local detachment, RCMP found another two flaps of suspected cocaine.
