A man is facing drunk driving charges after he crashed his car into a ditch on Nesters Road earlier this month, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle incident at the intersection of Nesters Road and Highway 99 on Feb. 19 and found a Nissan Saturn nose-down in the ditch.

The suspect admitted to driving the car into the ditch to an officer on the scene. He was then arrested on suspicions of driving while intoxicated based on his slurred speech, poor balance and odour of liquor on his breath, police said.

Back at the detachment the man failed three blood-alcohol tests, blowing more than triple the legal limit in each instance, police said.

Whistler RCMP is now looking to get in touch with a witness to the accident who left the scene prior to officers' arrival. Call 604-932-3044 with any relevant information.

Notorious meat thief steals meat, police say

Wendy's iconic '80s ad campaign famously asked, 'Where's the beef?' Well, someone should have posed that question to a Squamish man known for having sticky (and possibly greasy?) fingers.

Police conducting a routine road stop on the afternoon of Feb. 26 discovered that the 64-year-old driver had been recently charged with "theft of meat" from a Squamish grocery store, said Whistler RCMP Staff. Sgt. Steve LeClair.

The officer eventually directed the suspect to move a jacket from the backseat, revealing "a large quantity of fresh meat" underneath. At this point, his shame being too much to bear, the suspect confessed to his crime, telling the officer, "The meat is in the back."

The pilfered protein was valued at approximately $180, police said.

Turns out this wasn't the first instance of meat thievery the suspect has been linked to.

"We believe this person and his associates are chronic offenders stealing meat," LeClair said. "They've been charged for shoplifting in numerous jurisdictions, including Pemberton, Squamish and Whistler, previously."

Cookie monster: Woman caught on tape smashing glass case at local McDonald's

A woman avoided getting her hand caught in the cookie jar at a local fast food restaurant this month by simply smashing it to pieces.

Local police are asking for help to identify a female suspect who was seen on camera pushing over a glass container on Feb. 5 at the Marketplace McDonald's. After reviewing the surveillance footage, police suspect the woman destroyed the case on purpose, causing roughly $400 in damage.

"We don't know what the motive was," said LeClair.

No word on whether the suspect made off with any baked goods.
