The juried exhibition – presented in partnership with Coast Range Heliskiing Ltd.– will be displayed in the upstairs gallery at MY (Millennium) Place throughout the month of February 2005.
The show is part of the upcoming Celebration 2010 Whistler Arts Showcase, a month-long gala of local arts taking place every February in the years leading up to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
In accordance with the Backcountry theme, the exhibition is calling for images of skiing and snowboarding in terrain accessed by foot, snowmobile, helicopter, watercraft or dogsled. No chairlifts allowed!
Both amateur and professional photographers living in the Sea to Sky Corridor and the Lower Mainland are eligible to participate. An impartial jury will select approximately 26 photographers in amateur and professional categories to exhibit. Selections will be judged on artistic merit, composition, technique and adherence to theme.
In addition to the MY Place show, works will be displayed in satellite venues throughout Whistler Village.
Tales from the Backcountry features a People’s Choice Award for Best of Show – a Coast Range heli-skiing trip for the photographer and one member of the public – announced at the end of February.
