Widely regarded as the toughest mountain bike race in the world, the Transalp Challenge includes about 21,521 metres of climbing, as riders tackle ridge after ridge on a course that winds through the Alps in Germany, Austria and Italy. Despite the difficulty, every year the organizers get more than 4,000 requests for 350 available spots.

The winning Rocky Mountain Team, comprised of Carsten Bresser and Karl Platt of Germany, finished in 32:12:38.

The top Canadian team was comprised of Andreas Hestler and Alison Sydor of North Vancouver. They finished second in the mixed category with a time of 36:24:19, just over 40 minutes back of the lead.
