While it’s hard to picture it during this heat wave, just over a week ago it was raining in Whistler, and had been raining for a long time – enough to flood all five courts and the area outside the Creekside clubhouse, and delay the annual Whistler-Blackcomb Tennis Tournament at Creekside.

It has been rescheduled for this weekend, on Aug. 18 and 19.

"The water was up to our ankles outside the clubhouse and there was just no way we could go about," says club pro Scott Pederson.

The tournament will run all day Saturday and Sunday, with men’s, women’s and mixed doubles. The combined ages of both players will determine what age category each doubles team competes in.

There will also be a Junior tournament for the local kids who participated in the free lessons program.

Every event winner will receive a trophy, plus a prize from the more than $1,000 in prizes donated to the tournament.

"The local community has really gotten behind this year’s tournament with the prize list, and it should be one of the best ever," says Pederson.

Food and beverages will be available to competitors.

Registrations are being accepted at the tennis club, two blocks west of the Husky station on Lake Placid Road.
