The Centennial Café is presenting the work of Pemberton artist/photographer Wim Tewinkel this weekend.

Tewinkel immigrated from Holland to the Pemberton Valley in 1980. He and his wife set about building their own home and somewhere in between also found the time to travel extensively. His journeys would become the inspiration for his art work.

"I’m quite amazed myself, when I look at the places I’ve been," laughs Tewinkel.

Tewinkel captures wordly faces, landscapes and sometimes just moments in a wide spectrum of mediums: photographs, oil and acrylic, watercolour, charcoal and ink.

Despite the fact that Tewinkel has been drawing most of his life, this is the first time he has taken time away from his career in forestry to show his artistic side. He says friend and Centennial Café owner, Joe Fong, are largely to thank for the opportunity.

"For several months now, I’ve had just a few photos and paintings hanging in his restaurant and (Fong) and his wife came up with the idea of doing a whole exhibition," adds Tewinkel.

Make your way to Pemberton’s Centennial Cafe Sunday, May 13 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for a special dim sum brunch and a chance to meet this local artisan.
