Australia’s number one band, The Cat Empire, returns to Whistler for what will most likely be another sell-out performance Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the Garibaldi Lift Company.
The Aussies visited Whistler earlier this year, promoting their latest double-platinum album, Two Shoes . While the album, just released in Canada and the U.S., is winning over an astute following, nothing compares to seeing this music menagerie perform live. Their live shows are what sold this award-winning band, which is now signed to EMI Virgin records in Australia and Indica Records in Montreal.
Hip hop, reggae, jazz and Cuban is punched up with power-punching brass, spun out by a band turntablist and rocked up with a funky swing of keyboards, guitar and plenty of lyrical wordplay.
The Empire is growing. The troupe played at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in their hometown of Melbourne with 200,000 fans cheering them on. They’ve also shared stages with the likes of James Brown.
