If Greg Reamsbottom, frontman of the Zep tribute band A Whole Lotta Led, had to name a mountain bike trail after a Led Zeppelin song, it would have to be No Quarter.
“No Quarter means no mercy,” said the Whistlerite more famously known around these parts as Grateful Greg. “No quarter asked, and none given. It's an old saying about battle, going out there and fighting to the death.”
Sentiments off-road gladiators will be throwing down at the Crankworx Slopestyle Finals rocked out by A Whole Lotta Led on the Monster Mainstage on Saturday, July 28 in Skier’s Plaza.
“We are really stoked about playing the event,” Reamsbottom said. "Zep music is built for something like this. It sounds amazing in an outdoor concert setting with a huge P.A. system. You can't help but play your ass off. It’s such a blast to play it that way."
A Whole Lotta Led harnesses the power and mystery of rock's most enduring music.
The Whistler outfit of Reamsbottom, Creekside Phil Richard, Tom Rimmer and Mike Wilson are rocking out larger crowds this year. Sure the band boasts a sell-out show record in Whistler this past year, with more than 100 people lining up for some shows in the hope of getting in. But how would their shows fare outside of their mountain home?
The boys recently returned from their first B.C. tour with stopovers in Cranbrook, Elkford, Nelson and Kimberley earlier this month and already fans are asking when the Whistlerites will return.
“The Kimberley 36th annual July Event was insane,” Reamsbottom
said. "We played at the Civic Centre Arena (much like the Agridome in
Vancouver, where Zeppelin played in 1969) to a sold out crowd of over 3,500
people. It was like a big old-fashioned rock concert, and I have to tell ya, it
was fun as hell."
Crowds of 15,000 people are expected for the Slopestyle Finals and A Whole Lotta Led is ready to crank out Zep classics as fast as the competitors can ride. The Immigrant, The Ocean and The Lemon Song get people shakin’ every time.
"The guys are playing like maniacs after doing four gigs in a row on the road," he said. "We've never sounded better."
