The Rocky Horror Picture Show comes to Whistler

A cult classic of ’70s culture comes to the stage

What: Rocky Horror Picture Show

Where: MY Millennium Place

When: Oct. 13-15

Time warp into the transsexual world of Dr. Frank-N-Furter as he seduces cast and audience in the cult classic, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Presented by Sea to Sky Entertainment and the Squamish Youth Theatre group, The Rocky Horror Picture Show comes alive on stage at Millennium Place, Oct. 13, 14 and 15.

Producer and director Adriane Polo has been working hard to organize the popular musical.

"This is the best play I have ever done," said Polo. "We have a talented cast, and are trying to stay as true to the movie as we can."

Melissa Bachert, from Whistler, shares the role of Janet with Whitney Franklin, of Squamish. "It’s a fun role to play because it is like being a cartoon character exaggeration of a heroin. The scariest part about the role is the size of the costumes, you are wearing your underwear for most of the show," said Bachert.

The madness begins when newlyweds, Janet and Brad, played by Shane Vandermeer, stumble into the home of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, played by Richard Trann. The doctor, a mad-scientist from the planet transsexual, is about to give birth to the perfect man to release his tensions with. From there, the musical whirls through a mock horror world testing the boundaries of everyday stereotypes.

Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster; $18 for adults and $16 for students or seniors.
