FIRST NIGHT WHISLTER 2003>>

Tickets are on sale for Whistler’s non-alcoholic New Year’s Eve celebration, which includes musicians, artists, psychics, street performers, facepainters and arts participation. Tickets are $15 each, $4 for kids 12 and under and are available at Municipal Hall, Myrtle Philip Community Centre and Meadow Park.

PEMBERTON LEGION NEW YEARS EVE>>

There will be live music with Still Smokin’ and no cover charge at the Pemberton Legion’s New Years Eve party which starts at 9 p.m. on Dec. 31 of course.

ELECTION POLLS>>

The run-off election will not be held until Saturday, Jan. 11 at Myrtle Philip School from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. But there are two advanced polls. On Thursday, Jan. 2 there will be advanced polls in Whistler and West Vancouver at their respective municipal halls from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., followed by a second advanced poll in Whistler on Saturday, Jan. 4 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

BIG MOUNTAIN EXPERIENCE>>

The mountains will be alive for the first Big Mountain Experience running from Jan. 7 to 12. Hit the mountain with the Freeride team, take part in the free avalanche awareness days or sign up for the Randonnee Rally that will take you all over the mountains. Meanwhile the Canadian Freeskiing Championships will be setting the place on fire. Stayed tuned for more info.

CAF FUNDRAISER DINNER/DANCE>>

The Canadian Avalanche Foundation is hosting a dinner/dance at Dusty’s on Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. to raise money for the Canadian Avalanche Association bulletin. The bulletin keeps backcountry enthusiasts up-to-date on avalanche conditions. The evening will be co-hosted by Justin Trudeau. Tickets are $150 each (with a tax receipt for $75 issued with each ticket). Tickets are available at Whistler Mountain Ski Patrol Dispatch or Whistler Heli-Skiing in the village or e-mail info@avalanchefoundation.ca

ADAPTIVE SKIING INSTRUCTOR TRAINING>>

Learn how to be a cross-country adaptive ski instructor this season. Hosted by the Whistler Adaptive Ski Program, the Disabled Skiers of The weekend training course takes place from Jan. 10 to 12 but the last day to register is today, Friday, Dec. 27. ADRENALINE MOVIES>>

Take the journey of a lifetime on Thursday’s at Millennium Place with the K2FILM Adrenaline Adventure Movies. The three movies are 118 Days in the Captivity if Ice, Mysterious Mamberamo and Mustang. The night starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Millennium Place – $9.99 for adults, $5 for children and for all three films it’s $16. All the proceeds go to local charity Zero Ceiling.

LIFE DRAWING>>

Blackcomb is open from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. On Jan. 7 to 11 the best freeskiers in the world will battle it out at the Canadian Freeskiing Championships.

WHISTLER>>

Whistler Mountain opened on Thursday, Nov. 28. Gondola runs daily from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.

WFSG is a non-profit charitable organization whose purpose is to restore the health of Whistler’s watersheds to their utmost potential for people and fish through community partnerships, advocacy, education and projects.
