THE CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS FAIR 2000. Whistler’s Alta Lake School presents an interactive hand-crafting experience for children ages 4-10 Saturday, Dec. 2, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Westin Resort and Spa — Callaghan Room. $10 donation includes all activities or $2 per activity. WHISTLER ALPINE CLUB GEAR SWAP. The club’s main fund-raiser for the year takes place Dec. 2, between noon and 4 p.m. at the Coast Whistler Hotel. Equipment can be dropped off for sale between 9 and 11 a.m.

BEST OF THE BANFF MTN. FILM FESTIVAL . Fourteen mountain films from around the world will be presented at 7 p.m. Dec. 2 and 3 at the Myrtle Philip Community Centre. Different show each evening. Tickets from Escape Route.

LOCALS’ DAY WITH THE FREERIDE TEAM. On Wednesday, Dec. 6 members of the Whistler Freeride Team are inviting skiers and riders to experience the mountains with them. Meet at the Garibaldi Lift Company at 8:30 a.m. No beginners, please.

MICHAEL KAESHAMMER-NO STRINGS ATTACHED . What Harry Potter can do on a broomstick, Kaeshammer can do on a piano. Only 23, he’s played with some of the greats of jazz. For his Dec. 8 concert in Whistler he will be joined by Simon Fisk on bass and Damian Graham on drums. At Our Lady of the Mountains Church, 8 p.m.

CONCERT TO BENEFIT THE WHISTLER FOOD BANK. The Whistler Children’s Chorus and Whistler Singers join forces Dec. 10, 4 p.m. at Our Lady of the Mountains Church.

MONTESSORI CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS FAIR. Everyone, particularly artists under 12 years and their parents, are invited to sell self-made or re-usable Christmas items and gifts. Dec. 16, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Call 935-3111.

WHISTLER COUNCIL MEETING. View the decision making process and inner workings of the world’s favourite resort municipality, Dec. 4, 7 p.m. at Municipal Hall.

WHISTLER SUSTAINABILITY SYMPOSIUM. Applying the Natural Step framework for sustainability. Day-long symposium takes place Dec. 7, starting at 8:30 a.m., at the Chateau Whistler Resort.

AWARE MEETING. The Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment meets Dec. 7, 7 p.m. at the Delta Whistler Resort.

FAIRMONT & FRIENDS ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE FAIR. Fairmont Hotels & Resorts will gather all its environmental champions from across the chain to share their best practices in environmental stewardship. Friday, Dec. 8, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

WOMEN OF WHISTLER CELEBRATE THE SEASON. The Whistler chapter of the Western Businesswomen’s Association and the Whistler Chamber of Commerce will host a cocktail and hors d’oeuvre reception at Joel’s Restaurant at Nicklaus North, Dec. 12, 6-8 p.m. Register through the chamber (932-5528) by Dec. 11.

BLACKCOMB. The winter season is officially underway. WinterStart kicks off with a freestyle World Cup aerials event Dec. 2-3. The FIS snowboard World Cup returns Dec. 8-10.

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT TRAINING COURSES. Expand and develop skills with courses offered through the Whistler Chamber of Commerce.
