SUN SALUTE-ATHON

. A Sun Salute is a series of moves co-ordinated with the breath that is used as the initial warm-up in almost all forms of yoga. This is a fund-raiser for the Whistler Community Services Society, which operates the food bank, crisis line, Kidsport, home visit volunteers, peer counselling programs and more. Pick up a pledge sheet and salute Feb. 24, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Chateau Whistler, Macdonald Ballroom A.

GLOBAL AWARENESS BENEFIT DINNER

. Mama School in Guadalajara, Mexico and a project in Guyana are the beneficiaries. Come out for an evening of South American cuisine, entertainment and a silent auction, Friday, March 2 6:30-9 p.m. at Howe Sound secondary’s multipurpose room. Tickets available from Mostly Books, Goffinet Refinishing, Howe Sound secondary library, Brackendale secondary and Garibaldi Highlands elementary school.

WHISTLER GYMNASTICS CLUB

. Is hosting two special events. On Saturday, March 3 is the Club Meet for PreKip, Kip, Rebounder and Acronaut athletes, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Lunchtime concession will be available. Wednesday, March 7 is Junior Ribbon Day for the Highflyers, Classics, and Springer athletes, between 3 and 6 p.m. A snack concession will be available. U-HF (UNHEARD FREQUENCY) EVENT SERIES

MEETINGS/WORKSHOPS

FEBRUARY IS HEART MONTH.

Volunteers for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. will be canvassing door-to-door during February. All volunteers will have the familiar red and white foundation logo on buttons, information kits and tax receipts.

FIRESIDE CHAT WITH STEVE PODBORSKI.

The first in a series of chats regarding the Vancouver-Whistler 2010 Olympic bid will be held Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in the bid corporation’s new community office, next to the Whistler Museum.

REDUCING THE STRESSES OF RAISING TEENAGERS.

Brenda Montani, a therapist, school counsellor and mother of two young adults invites parents of teenagers to be part of a free workshop. Receive and share tips that decrease the potential for conflict and enhance the parent-teen relationships. Workshop is Feb. 28, 7-9 p.m. at Whistler Secondary. Pre-registration required. AWARE

will be hosting Mrs. Adriane Carr, Leader of the B.C. Green Party, as part of their monthly public presentation series, on Thursday March 1, from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Delta Whistler Resort. Mrs. Carr will make a presentation which will be followed by a question and discussion period. AWARE's monthly meeting will follow at 8 p.m. All are welcome.

OPEN HOUSE AND PUBLIC MEETING.

The Whistler Museum and Archives Society and the Whistler Public Library, in collaboration with the Resort Municipality of Whistler, invite residents and visitors to discuss goals and objectives for a new building and to visit behind the scenes at their current facilities. Saturday, March 3, 4-6 p.m. at the library/museum. Short presentation at 5 p.m.

AMBASSADORS NEEDED.

The ninth annual Sierra Wireless, Air Canada Whistler Cup is an international juvenile ski race that attracts more than 300 skiers from 20 countries. Organizers are looking for volunteers as ambassadors April 4-9 to meet and greet the racers at the hotel, tour the village, accreditation office and attend the coaches meeting if requried. Both English and mulit-lingual ambassadors are needed. Call the Whistler Mountain Ski Club at 932-4644 to volunteer.

INTRODUCTION TO NORTHWEST COAST NATIVE ART.

. AlpenRock House shows Ride , one of filmmaker Warren Miller’s classic flicks Feb. 28, at 8 p.m. Extreme sports including snowboarding and skiing guaranteed to make your hair stand on end. The first 10 minutes were shot in Whistler so check out big action on your own home turf.

FREE AVALANCHE AWARENESS TOURS.

Open to all intermediate to advanced boarders and skiers. Tours depart daily at 9 a.m. from the Guest Relations counter in the Blackcomb daylodge. Tours last all day and allow participants to develop a sense of what they need to accomplish before they go out of bounds and into the backcountry.

ON THE TRAILS

Come out every Tuesday night between 6 and 8 p.m. for free tips on Classic and Skate cross-country technique. A one time $5 seasonal membership to our local ski club – Whistler Nordics – is all you pay for the instruction. Rentals and trail passes are available at evening rates.

Thursday is a fun time trial focusing on mere participation. It's the Loonie Races winter style! Bring a friend and join in the Apres. Draw prizes and a big bash at the end of the season.
