A fashion show, door prizes, a draw for a Robert Bateman print, refreshments and a huge blowout sale mark the centre’s first anniversary on April 7. Drop by the Function Junction site between 1 and 4 p.m.

MOUTON CADET SPRING FESTIVAL.

Fun on Whistler Mountain April 7-8 with public and restaurant-industry races, and a public reception at the Chateau Whistler April 7, 4:30-7 p.m., featuring samples from Whistler’s best restaurants and Mouton Cadet red and white.

CAMERON BIRD EXHIBITION.

Display of new work by the artist at the adele-campbell Fine Art Gallery April 7, 7 p.m.

SING-A-LONG SOUND OF MUSIC

. The classic film is now an interactive party, with theatre-goers dressing up as characters in the film and even as lyrics to some of the songs. There will be one showing of the Sing-a-long Sound of Music in Whistler, April 11 at 7 p.m. at Rainbow Theatre, with proceeds going to the Whistler Mountain Ski Club and Whistler Moving Chords Youth Choir. Tickets available from Nesters, the ski club cabin, Whistler Housing Authority and Rogers Chocolates.

TELUS WORLD SKI AND SNOWBOARD FESTIVAL

. Annual festival of ski and snowboard competitions, photographer showdowns, mountain adventure films, concerts, parties and anything else that’s legal on snow. April 13-22.

WHISTLER DOGFEST 2001

. Includes the annual Doggy Parade and contests for cutest dog, best dressed dog and dog/owner lookalike. Takes place Sunday, April 15, from 1 to 5 p.m. in Mountain Square. Parade starts at The Puppy Zone at 3:30 p.m.

FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE

. The eighth annual Father-Daughter Dance takes place Sunday, April 22 at the Chateau Whistler, 5-8:30 p.m. Proceeds from the evening, which is attended by 500 fathers and daughters, go towards the Whistler Children’s Centra and the computer program at Myrtle Philip school.

WOMEN OF WHISTLER.

Spring meeting of the group formerly known at the Western Businesswomen’s Association is April 12, 6-9 p.m., at Joel’s at Nicklaus North. Co-sponsored by the Whistler Chamber of Commerce, marathon athlete Chloe Lanthier is the guest speaker. Reservations required through the chamber (932-5922) by April 11.

WHISTLER MUSEUM AND ARCHIVES SOCIETY.

Annual general meeting is Thursday, April 19 at 7 p.m. at the Museum and Archives’ building on Main Street. The society is accepting nominations for election to the board of trustees and seeking volunteers for fund-raising, marketing, new building development and other programs.

WHISTLER CHILDREN’S ART FESTIVAL.

Interested in enhancing the artistic and creative talents of young children? The Whistler Community Arts Council is looking for volunteers for the upcoming Whistler Children’s Art Festival taking place on Saturday, May 26 and Sunday May 27. Volunteers are needed in the following areas: organizing committee, art workshop leaders, art workshop helpers, festival setup/takedown. Help make this community event a success. INTRODUCTION TO NORTHWEST COAST NATIVE ART.

An informative lecture enhancing understanding of the art and culture of the Northwest Coast First People. Approximately 30 minutes long, Mondays at 2 p.m. and Thursdays at 8 p.m., Black Tusk Gallery on Main Street, 905-5540. All are welcome.

The Leopard Lounge in the AlpenRock House shows Ride , one of filmmaker Warren Miller’s classic flicks on Thursdays, at 6 p.m. Extreme sports including snowboarding and skiing guaranteed to make your hair stand on end. The first 10 minutes were shot in Whistler so check out big action on your own home turf.

FREE AVALANCHE AWARENESS TOURS.

Open to all intermediate to advanced boarders and skiers. Tours depart daily at 9 a.m. from the Guest Relations counter in the Blackcomb daylodge. Tours last all day and allow participants to develop a sense of what they need to accomplish before they go out of bounds and into the backcountry.

ON THE TRAILS

Come out every Tuesday night between 6 and 8 p.m. for free tips on Classic and Skate cross-country technique. A one time $5 seasonal membership to our local ski club – Whistler Nordics – is all you pay for the instruction. Rentals and trail passes are available at evening rates.

Thursday is a fun time trial focusing on mere participation. It's the Loonie Races winter style! Bring a friend and join in the Apres. Draw prizes and a big bash at the end of the season.
