PEMBERTON COWBOY FESTIVAL AND BARN DANCE. From July 27 to 29 the Pemberton Stables will become home to cowboy poets, musicians, yodellers, storytellers and artisans. Cowboy poet Mike Puhallo of Kamloops and the annual chamber of commerce Barn Dance. Call 894-6984 for information.

WHISTLER CHAMBER LUNCH. Whistler’s Citizen of the Year will be announced at this month’s luncheon, July 18, 11:45 a.m. at Garibaldi Lift Company. Reservations required; call 932-5528.

SUMMER READING CLUB. The Whistler Public Library’s Summer Reading Club is held on Wednesdays from July 11 to Aug. 15. There is a session for preschoolers from 11 a.m. to noon and two sessions for 5-9 year olds: from 4 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 8 p.m. There will be stories, songs, crafts and a costume party to wind up the club. HELPING HANDS

WHISTLER FISHERIES STEWARDSHIP GROUP — is planning a series of volunteer action days this summer to restore and enhance fish habitat around the Whistler Valley. Volunteers donate a few hours of their time and learn much about Whistler’s aquatic ecosystem and the animals that depend on them. This is a great chance to participate in the conservation of Whistler’s natural environment. For more information call Lisa or Veronica at 935-8323.

CALLING ALL GARDENERS! Don’t be shy to enter your garden in our contest! Feel free to nominate the garden of a friend or a neighbour. Nomination forms are at McBloom’s in Marketplace. A garden is a labour of love to be shared; a visual feast for the eyes. Categories: Funky Garden, Patio Garden, Flower Garden, Veggie Garden. Contest closes July 22. WHISTLER ANIMALS GALORE. WAG is now a registered charitable organization and can issue tax receipts for gifts and donations made.

MY YOUTH CENTRE. Now open at Maurice Young Millennium Place. Activities include ping pong, pool table, Playstation, Nintendo, Internet access, big screen projection TV, day and overnight trips and tons of other activities. Needed are donations of videos, games, Playstation and Nintendo games and any other "cool" stuff. For hours of operation call 935-8410.

PAPERBACKS WANTED. The Whistler Public Library wants used paperbacks for its huge book sale on Saturday, Aug. 4 at the IGA in Marketplace. Bring your books to the library, 4329 Main Street, before the sale or directly to the sale table on Aug. 4.
