WEETAMA . Whistler?s celebration of aboriginal culture, Aug. 30-Sept. 2, includes hoop and powwow dances, elder storytellers and carving demonstrations all weekend, and The Feast on Saturday evening. Tickets at the Whistler Activity and Information Centre.

SHYLOCK . A one-man play staring David Berner as an actor who portrays Shylock in Shakespeare?s Merchant of Venice. Poignant and thought provoking, at Maurice Young Millennium Place Aug. 31-Sept. 1.

PEMBERTON MEADOWS MUSIC FESTIVAL . John Bottomley, Suzanne Gitzi, Davey?s Locker and Tiller?s Folly headline this festival, Aug. 31-Sept. 3. at the Mount Currie Rodeo Grounds. Weekend passes are $75 and day passes are $25.

WHISTLER PUBLIC LIBRARY?S 15 TH BIRTHDAY . Sept. 1, 2 p.m. at the library, 4329 Main Street. Birthday cake, lists of locals? favourite books, tours and a general celebration of 15 years serving the community.

ROTARY CORN ROAST . Join the Whistler Rotary Club Labour Day weekend for their annual corn roast. Bring your family and friends, join in the fun and enjoy the farm fresh corn-on-the-cob. Sept. 1-3, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Whistler Village by the North Shore Credit Union. Funds raised support local community service projects.

LANGLEY HORNETS VS . BURNABY BULLDOGS . Whistler Minor Hockey presents an exhibition game between Junior A teams on Sept. 3, noon at Meadow Park Arena. Tickets are $20 for a family, $10 for adults and $5 for children 15 and under. Proceeds go to Whistler Minor Hockey. Tickets available at the door.

FAMILY FUNFEST . Whistler Parks and Recreation is hosting this family picnic Sunday, Sept. 9, 4-7 p.m. at Rainbow Park. Food is provided by local businesses ($4 per meal) and Whistler Outdoor Experience is providing canoes, kayaks and paddle boats. A tarot card reader, face painting and a tug-o-war are also part of the afternoon events.

WHISTLER JAZZ AND BLUES FESTIVAL . Juno Award-winning Metalwood is the headline act for the 12 th annual Jazz and Blues Festival, Sept. 14-16. Metalwood, along with Bullfrog and Kid Koala, play at the Underground in the Whistler Conference Centre Sept. 15. Six bands play outdoors in a variety of locations over the weekend.

MEETINGS/WORKSHOPS

WHISTLER COUNCIL MEETING. It?s summer holiday time for councillors, who don?t meet again until Sept. 4, at 7 p.m. in council chambers, municipal hall.

STAYING SAFE IN BEAR COUNTRY. The J.J. Whistler Bear Society is holding its bi-monthly Bear Smart presentation Sept. 5, 7-9 p.m. at Millennium Place. Call Sylvia at 604-905-4209 for information.
