GRAND TOUR DE FRANCE.

Some of the most prestigious names in French wine are paired with food from some of Whistler’s best restaurants at a reception in the Roundhouse Lodge Sept. 8, 12:30-3:30 p.m. Tickets are $65, available from Whistler Mountain Guest Relations.

FAMILY FUNFEST

. Whistler Parks and Recreation is hosting this family picnic Sunday, Sept. 9, 4-7 p.m. at Rainbow Park. Food is provided by local businesses ($5 per meal) and Whistler Outdoor Experience is providing canoes, kayaks and paddle boats. A tarot card reader, face painting, black bear researcher Michael Allen and a tug-o-war are also part of the afternoon events.

WHISTLER JAZZ AND BLUES FESTIVAL

. Juno Award-winning Metalwood is the headline act for the 12 th annual Jazz and Blues Festival, Sept. 14-16. Metalwood, along with Bullfrog and Kid Koala, play at the Underground in the Whistler Conference Centre Sept. 15. Six bands play outdoors in a variety of locations over the weekend.

RAY ANDERSON, THE NATURAL STEP

. Ray Anderson is founder, CEO and chair of Interface Inc., the world’s largest commercial carpet and flooring manufacturer, and one of the most dynamic speakers anywhere. Interface adopted the Natural Step framework, a system for understanding environmental sustainability, in 1996. This is the first in a monthly series of speakers being presented as Whistler adopts The Natural Step. Saturday, Sept. 15, 7:30 p.m. at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. No charge.

CHEAKAMUS CHALLENGE 2001: A BIKE ODYSSEY

. The 19 th annual Brackendale-Whistler mountain bike race goes Sept. 22. Free kids cycling clinics with some of the best riders in the world are Sept. 23 at the Mountain Bike Zone on Whistler Mountain.

WHISTLER BREAST CANCER FORUM.

THE WHISTLER DANCE ACADEMY.

Fall dance classes will begin in September and are open to all levels and age groups. Come on out and shake your booty. A children's summer dance workshop will be taking place in August. QUILTING GROUP.

HELPING HANDS

WHISTLER FISHERIES STEWARDSHIP GROUP —

is planning a series of volunteer action days this summer to restore and enhance fish habitat around the Whistler Valley. Volunteers donate a few hours of their time and learn much about Whistler’s aquatic ecosystem and the animals that depend on them. For more information call Lisa or Veronica at 935-8323.

WAG is now a registered charitable organization and can issue tax receipts for gifts and donations made.

MY YOUTH CENTRE.

Now open at Maurice Young Millennium Place. Activities include ping pong, pool table, Playstation, Nintendo, Internet access, big screen projection TV, day and overnight trips and tons of other activities. Needed are donations of videos, games, Playstation and Nintendo games and any other "cool" stuff. For hours of operation call 935-8410.
