MUSEUM FUND

- RAISER . The Whistler Museum and Archives will be holding a fund-raising event at the Dubh Linn Gate on Thursday, Oct. 25. The evening includes a buffet dinner, a pint, entertainment and entry into a raffle. Tickets are $20, available at the museum.

RENEWABLE ENERGY-THE RIGHT CHOICE

. Dr. Donald Aitken, a world-renowned expert in renewable energy, is the first in a series of speakers presented by early adopters of the Natural Step, Oct. 25, at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Resort. An open house, where a recent energy audit of Whistler will be presented, starts at 6:30 p.m. Aitken’s presentation is at 7:30 p.m. The Leadership Through Sustainable Innovation speaker series continues through March, 2002.

A FINE AND PLEASANT MISERY

. The humour of Patrick F. McManus is featured in this one-man, two-act play of adolescent fears. At Maurice Young Millennium Place Oct. 26, 8 p.m. Reception at 7:30 p.m.

VANCOUVER SKI AND SNOWBOARD SWAP

. The 36 th annual edition of the swap has moved dates and location. The swap has been moved to B.C. Place Stadium, and will be held Oct. 26-28. Admission is by donation, with proceeds going to support junior racing and snow sport programs in British Columbia.

POLITICAL DISCUSSION.

SCREENING MAMMOGRAPHY.

FLU VACCINE.

Coast Garibaldi Health Unit is offering free flu vaccine to all residents over 65, health care workers, emergency responders and anyone else with chronic medical conditions. GIANT RUMMAGE SALE

. The Outdoor Adventure Leadership Program at Pemberton Secondary school is holding a giant rummage sale on Sunday, Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pemberton Secondary school gym. Come and find your Halloween costume or that missing piece of furniture. Baked goodies and lots of good stuff. Money goes to help cover the cost of the program, which begins in February 2002.

WHISTLER HOUSING AUTHORITY.

Provides long-term housing for Whistler employees for purchase or rental. If you are employed in Whistler and would like a secure, long-term rental you can be placed on our rental waitlist by completing a tenancy application form. Eligible Whistler employees can register to purchase an employee-restricted property. It usually takes a minimum of 12 months on the waitlist before being offered rental or purchase housing. The WHA also provides a rental listing service for landlords, and some landlord-tenant information.

RE-USE-IT CENTRE.

Open daily, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at the recycling depot in Function Junction. New or used items that are clean, in good shape and working order will be accepted.

WHISTLER BOTTLE DEPOT.

Open Friday-Monday, noon-4 p.m. at the recycling depot on Nesters Road, next to municipal works yard . Most drinkable containers are now on the deposit-refund system, except for milk products and meal replacements. Commercial loads accepted by appointment. Call 932-3733.

FOOD BANK.

The Whistler Community Services Society’s food bank is open the first and third Monday of each month. Food bank distribution hours are between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The food bank is located behind Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church, at the bottom of Lorimer Road. Donations are always welcome. For more urgent food bank requirements call 932-0113.

COMMUNITY INTERNET CAFE.

Reopens for fall hours Tuesday, Sept. 11. At Whistler Secondary Community School , Tuesdays and Fridays 6:30-9:30 p.m. in September, expanding to four times per week in October. PEARL’S PLACE TRANSITION HOUSE

(Squamish). Call toll-free 1-877-890-5711, or 892-5711 in Squamish, direct to support workers available to listen to and support women experiencing abuse. The shelter can house seven women and children.

CANCER SUPPORT & FRIENDS.

The Canadian Cancer Society has volunteer peer counselors available for one-on-one chats with cancer patients and their friends and families.
