PADDLEFEST

Canoe and kayak demos, tours, clinics and competitions over a three-day festival. There will be a First Nations Salmon BBQ, races and local rodeos and a 22-person war canoe for all ages and abilities. June 7-9 at the Edgewater Outdoor Centre.

WHISTLER FISHERIES STEWARDSHIP GROUP

The WFSG is a non-profit charitable organization whose purpose is to restore the health of Whistler’s watersheds to their utmost potential for people and fish through community partnerships, advocacy, education, and projects. The WFSG will be hosting volunteer activity sessions throughout the summer where people can help out and learn about stream restoration, streamside planting, fish monitoring and other stewardship activities. The first volunteer session will be a joint effort with Whistler/Blackcomb HIT, and will be on Tuesday, June 11, 2002. For information call 604-935-8323 or e-mail fish@whistler.ca

BIG BIKE FOR STROKE

Imagine 30 people on one giant bicycle. Corporate and community teams are welcome to raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation in the Marketplace on Wednesday, June 12, all day. Draw prizes include a Houseboat Vacation and 29 mountain bikes.

G8 FOREIGN MINISTERS' MEETING

Hosted by Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister, Bill Graham at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, June 12-13. Counterterrorism and post-Taliban Afghanistan are key components to the agenda.

LIL'WAT YOUTH SOCIETY BRINGS PRO-WRESTLING

ECCW/NWA (extreme Canadian wrestling) pro-wrestling is coming to the Mount Currie Gymnasium on Friday, June 14 at 8 p.m. Tickets $10 for adults, $8 for students at the door or in advance at the Mount Currie Band Office, Lil'Wat Gas, Mount Currie Health Centre, Mount Currie Sporting Goods and Xit'Olacw Corner Store.

JAZZ AND BLUES FESTIVAL

The sounds of jazz and blues filter throughout the village from June 14-16.

Colin James headlines the festival on Saturday, June 15, 8 p.m. at the Whistler Conference centre. Tickets are $28.50.

WHISTLER ANGLING CLUB DERBY

WAC is hosting its second annual Alta Lake Fathers Day Fishing Derby. The event will be run from Lakeside Park on Sunday, June 16. Pre-registration is at Whistler Flyfishing, 103-4338 Main Street.

SEA TO SKY LRMP PROJECT UPDATE

Hosted by the Ministry of Sustainable Resource Management, the meetings are to inform the public about the progress of the area's LRMP. At the Pemberton Community Centre (Rooms 111-112) on Tuesday, June 18 and Myrtle Philip Community School gymnasium on Wednesday, June 19. An open house session will run from 5-7 p.m. and a formal meeting from 7-9:30 p.m.
