The first annual festival celebrating life in the Creekside with children’s activities and performances, live street entertainment, a beer garden and lots more. The festival takes place on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. STRUT YOUR STUFF>>

The annual registration and information fair for community recreation programs takes place Sept. 7, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Whistler Secondary school. Organized by KidSport Whistler, the fair is a chance to meet coaches, parks and recreation centre staff, trade-in small equipment and clothing, watch displays and pick up application forms for KidSport grants.

COMMUNITY FUNFEST>>

Whistler Parks and Recreation presents Community FunFest. A fun, annual event for our community at Rainbow Park Sunday, Sept. 8, 3-6 p.m. Activities include: a puppet show, free canoe and kayak rentals, crafts, a bouncy castle, tarot card reader, live music, barbecue and lots more. There is a $5 cost per person for the barbecue.

REMEMBERING 9/11>>

Whistler Village Church is having a meditative service of reflection and commemoration in honour of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The service will be led by Rev. Stephen Hershey at Millennium Place on Wed. Sept. 11 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Donations will be collected on behalf of the Red Cross. For more information please call 604-935-8450.

SEASON OF THE BEAR>>

The J.J. Whistler Bear Society presents a tribute to wilderness – to the eagle, grizzly bear and black bear in this two hundred slide show presentation with stories, legends, poems and original song performed by Glenys SnowDymond & Joseph Lehman. The Kelty Patrick Dennehy Foundation Weekend to Remember Sept. 14-15 includes a gala dinner Saturday night and a golf tournament at Nicklaus North Sunday. 2002 TERRY FOX RUN>>

The 5 and 10 km run/walk takes place on Sunday Sept. 15 at a new Whistler location, Riverside Campground. Registration is at 9 a.m. and start is at 10 a.m. A family even for all with a BBQ, live music and face painting. All proceeds go to cancer research. Many volunteers required. The final workshop in phase 1 of the Comprehensive Sustainability Plan will be a two-day workshop the weekend of Sept. 21-22. Participants are asked to help choose criteria for Whistler’s future. WHISTLER NATURALISTS>>

Volunteers needed for the Federation of B.C. Naturalists’ Fall General Meeting Sept. 20-22. There will be a wide range of speakers and field trips. Confirmed speakers include: Tom Hurd (Banff Wildlife Specialist); Jack Souther (volcanoes); Kathy Martin (alpine bird migration); Morgan Wells (traditional plant use); Karl Ricker (glaciology); and Michael Allen (black bear and cougar researcher). WHISTLER FISHERIES STEWARDSHIP GROUP>>

WSFG is a non-profit charitable organization whose purpose is to restore the health of Whistler’s watersheds to their utmost potential for people and fish through community partnerships, advocacy, education and projects. WSFG will be hosting volunteer activity sessions throughout the summer where people can help out and learn about stream restoration, streamside planting, fish monitoring and other stewardship activities.
