Be dazzled by some starry information at the first of several presentations by John Nemy of the Pacific Observatory at Millennium Place on Fri. Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. The talk is suitable for all ages and admission is by donation.

OKTOBERFEST>>

Break out the beer steins and lederhosen, it’s that time of year again. Events like the Oktoberfest Parade, the Tapping of the Keg and the Beer Stein Making will be happening throughout the weekend (Oct. 25-26). Most Sat. events take place at the Blackcomb Daylodge, Upper Village. For more info call 604-932.3928.

SPRUCE GROVE FIELD HOUSE OPENING>>

The ribbon will be cut at 10 a.m. on Sat. Oct. 26 at the Spruce Grove Field House to celebrate its official opening. There will be opening remarks from the mayor followed by facility tours and refreshments.

ALTA LAKE SCHOOL OPENING>>

The teachers, parents and students of the Alta Lake School welcome the community of Whistler to join us in celebrating the opening of our new school. Come and learn about Waldorf education and why it’s the fastest growing independent school movement worldwide. Storytelling, crafts, sing-a-long fun for the kids. Ribbon cutting ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on Sat. Oct. 26 from 1-3:30 p.m. Rain or shine.

MASQUERADE BALL>>

Don your masks and come out to the Delta Whistler Resort Hotel for a Hallowe’en Masquerade Ball fundraiser on Sat. Oct. 26, 8 p.m.-1 a.m. $30 per person including appetizers and dessert. All proceeds go to the Whistler Library-Museum Capital Campaign.

TAPLEY’S HALLOWE’EN>>

Start dusting off those costumes because trick or treating is just around the corner from dusk until 7:30 p.m. at Tapley’s Farm on Hallowe’en night. There will be fireworks afterwards in the field behind Myrtle Philip School. Candy donations are being accepted until Oct. 28 at the office in Myrtle Philip School, The Whistler Children’s Centre and 6388 Easy Street.

TODD BUTLER AT MY PLACE>>

The Whistler Arts Council presents satirical songwriter Todd Butler’s funny and creative brand of social commentary on Friday Nov. 1 at 8 p.m. at Millennium Place. His shows are part stand-up comedy, part musical journey. Tickets at MY Place or call 604-935-8418.

PEMBERTON FATHER-DAUGHTER DANCE>>

There will be music, dancing, raffle prices and games at the girls and their dads at the 4 annual Father-Daughter dance. Tickets are $20 per father-daughter couple or $25 per family at PaperWorks and Mystery Closet in Pemberton. The dance takes place on Nov. 2 at Signal Hill Elementary School from 7-11 p.m.

RETURN OF THE SALMON FESTIVAL, SQUAMISH>>

This year’s Squamish festival runs from Sat. Oct. 12 to Sun. Nov. 3. The goal is to hoist 150 hand painted windsocks from Squamish Station down to the estuary. All community members can paint a windsock to welcome the salmon back to Squamish. Call Nikki at 604-898-4860 for more info on windsock painting workshops.

WSFG is a non-profit charitable organization whose purpose is to restore the health of Whistler’s watersheds to their utmost potential for people and fish through community partnerships, advocacy, education and projects. WSFG will be hosting volunteer activity sessions throughout the summer where people can help out and learn about stream restoration, streamside planting, fish monitoring and other stewardship activities.
