It was a busy week for Whistler RCMP, which has had its hands full in the past month with car thefts and home break-ins.

Those investigations are continuing, but there were several reports of thefts or attempted thefts in the past week.

On the vehicle side, the RCMP are investigating the attempted theft of a Ford F350 from the Town Plaza area on Feb. 18. The suspect was confronted by the owner of the vehicle, and ran away.

On Feb. 23 the RCMP received a report of a stolen red Toyota Yaris from the day lots, licence plate 959 GSG. It was parked on Feb. 20, and was gone by the time the owner returned Feb. 22.

As well, a tandem axle trailer was stolen but it was later recovered in Squamish.

Other vehicles were broken into. On Feb. 23 there were two vehicles broken into and items stolen. One vehicle was in a hotel parkade, and another was in the day lots where $3,000 in camera equipment was stolen. It was believed the second vehicle was left unlocked.

Thefts at businesses and residences included two break ins at restaurants where a small amount of cash was stolen. There was an attempted break in of a residence on Aspen Drive on Feb. 20, and several items were stolen around the village where they were left unattended, including two laptops, two cameras, two backpacks, a purse, two snowboards, a pair of skis and poles. A set of luggage was also stolen from Village Gate Boulevard., and a large, red mail box was taken from 1200 Alta Lake Road.

RCMP are looking for public assistance in recovering the mailbox. If you have any information call 604-932-3044, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Busy weekend for RCMP
In addition to thefts, the RCMP had a busy weekend in general. While there were just 15 arrests for being intoxicated, the RCMP also handed out 11 24-hour driving suspensions, and charged two people with impaired driving.

On Feb. 22 a male was stopped for a driving infraction and arrested with 260 grams of marijuana. Charges are still pending, so the suspect cannot be identified.

The RCMP also arrested someone in relation to a hit and run in the Whistler day lots on Feb. 18 (charges pending), and are investigating another hit and run on Feb. 21.

The RCMP are also investigating a cheque that was cashed fraudulently, which was stolen along with a backpack. The investigation is continuing, and charges are pending.

The RCMP have advised residents to purchase security devices like steering wheel locks, to lock their vehicles and homes, and to lock skis and snowboards. Do not leave valuables in locked cars, and watch your personal items in public.
