Thespians lend me your ears

Between Shifts Theatre is hosting auditions for its upcoming theatrical extravaganza of one-act plays staged at the end of May at the Brackendale Art Gallery in Squamish.

Adults 16 years and older are invited to participate in the group audition, which includes theatre games, improvisation and cold reads Saturday, March 25 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, March 26 at noon at the Sea to Sky Hotel.

Rehearsals take place in Squamish and the show requires a commitment of one evening and day a week.

Six short one-act works will be performed. Titles are not yet announced. The experience also includes a workshop with a professional director.

Murderball

screened Saturday

The Whistler Adaptive Sports Program, an organization dedicated to introducing adaptive sports to the physically and mentally impaired, is hosting a fundraiser with Academy-Award-nominated film Murderball Saturday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. at MY Millennium Place.

The film, nominated for Best Documentary Feature, gets up close and personal with the world of wheelchair rugby as the U.S. and Canadian teams prepared for the Athens Paralympic Games.

Admission is by donation. Proceeds benefit WASP.

Filmmakers get shooting

LUNA is putting out an open call for short films to compete in the inaugural Shred Amateur Film Competition, screening Thursday, April 6 at MY Millennium Place Theatre.

Submissions must be no longer than 10 minutes, PG friendly and formatted on DVD. The top 10 films will be screened at Snowbound Episode5 at the theatre.

Amateur writers and photographers are also welcome to contribute to the local talent night.

The deadline for entries is Monday, April 3.

Filmmakers can also brush up on their directing, editing and shooting skills at LUNA’s Snowbound Episode4 Thursday, March 23 at MY Millennium Place. Snowboard filmmaker Kevin Sansalone and his Sandbox crew will be on hand to give the inside information on the tricks of the trade.

The evening includes refreshments from Four ‘N Twenty dinner pies and Monster energy drink.

Admission is $3 for LUNA members (ages 18-29) and $5 for non-members.
