Whether you’re keen to participate in the parade on July 1 but lacking in inspiration, or bursting with suggestions on what to do, every little bit helps. It also doesn’t hurt to mention that there are lucrative prizes for exceptional parade entries.

The annual parade attracts up to 500 locals and tourists to the village streets, with many others behind the scenes involved in the working crews. This year’s parade falls on the eve of the 2010 Winter Olympics host city announcement, so pride for all things maple is at feverish pitch.

The Canada Day Pep Rally on June 23 starts at 6 p.m. in the boardroom of the Whistler Chamber of Commerce building. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the main event, the Canada Day Parade on Tuesday, July 1 at 2 p.m. starting at Spearhead Drive on the Blackcomb Benchlands.

The theme for this year’s parade is the joint bid with Vancouver for the 2010 Olympics.

Pique Newsmagazine is sponsoring a parade within the parade for everyone who has a bike and a bit of creative spirit. Bring your bike along with all the streamers, flags and colour you can get to join in The Pique Pedal Parade.
