Three Tituses in Grouse Grind top-10

Still, that doesn’t stop close to 500 athletes from trying to run to the top each year in the annual Grouse Grind Mountain Run. This year’s event took place on Sunday, Sept. 25.

Whistler was well represented this year, with the Titus family competing in the elite category. Morgan Titus was second overall in 27 minutes and seven seconds, just 41 seconds back of Michael Simpson of West Vancouver. Joren Titus was sixth overall, and fifth in the 19 to 29 category, with a time of 29:36. Kevin Titus was 10 th overall and first in the men’s 40 to 49 race in 31:04.

In the open category, downhill mountain bike rider Jeff Beatty was 16 th overall and seventh in the 19 to 29 race in 36:41. John Muzzillo was 21 st overall and fifth in the 40 to 49 race in 37:23. Jason Hawes was 88 th and 17 th in the 19 to 29 group in 41:53.

Bob Allison, who had a solid ride in the Cheakamus Challenge the day before, was 90 th overall and 30 th in the men’s 40 to 49 category in 42:05. He kept pace with his son Jake, who finished eighth in the Under 13 category and 91 st overall in 42:06.

Mike Gilhoolhy was 121 st overall and fourth in the men’s 60 to 69 race in 43:37.

Ryan Worrod was 151 st , and 23 rd in the 19 to 29 race in 45:27.

Malika Rowe was 285 th and 11 th in the women’s 19 to 29 race in 56:46.

From Pemberton, Marty VanLoon was 68th overall and 24 th in the 40 to 49 race in 41:05. His son Matthew VanLoon was third in the men’s 13 to 18 category, and 81 st overall in 41:40. Andrea VanLoon was fifth in the women’s 30 to 39 race in 43:17. Trevor VanLoon was 13 th in the men’s Under 13 group in 48:04.

A few locals also competed in the team category. The Intrawest Girls, which included Kara Moddemann, Kim Dixon, Lindsay Allan and Jill Johnston, was second in the open women’s category.

In the co-ed category, Team Death – Jeff Beatty, Jason Hawes, Ryan Worrod and Malika Rowe – was second overall.
