Tickets on sale for S2S Hockey Challenge

The big picture for the second annual Remax Sea to Sky Hockey Challenge got a little clearer this week, after tickets went on sale in Whistler and Vancouver on Dec. 15.

The event, which raised $20,000 for the PodiumFund, the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program and the Whistler Mountain Ski Club last year, will take place on Feb. 26 in Vancouver and Feb. 27 in Whistler.

Former Vancouver Canucks general manager Brian Burke will lead the Hockey Heroes side of NHL veterans and Olympic athletes, with a roster that already includes former all-stars Kevin Lowe and Ray Ferraro.

Dave Nonis, the new Vancouver GM, will lead the opposing Hollywood North Stars, which will include Howie Meeker as coach, the Courtnall Brothers (Russ, Geoff and Bruce), Steve Tambellini, and Vancouver Mayor Larry Campbell. More player announcements will be made over the next few weeks, and both Nonis and Burke have indicated that they will skate a few shifts themselves over the weekend.

"We simply don’t have time to wait as our athletes need our help today. Five years from now, we will all know we have made a real difference for Canada’s athletes," said event producer Heather Wallace of Destination Funny Entertainment.

You can get tickets for the Whistler game at Ticketmaster or the Whistler Activity Centre, 604-938-2769. The cost is $25 plus service charges.
