To Your Health By staff at the Whistler Health Care Centre Are you new to the Sea to Sky community? If you are, it is nice to know what health care services are available. The sea to sky community is made up of three towns, Pemberton, Whistler and Squamish. Each of these towns has family doctors with practices that accept new patients. The Sea to Sky Community Health Council consists of Treatment and Diagnostic Centres in Whistler and Pemberton and a community hospital in Squamish. The treatment and diagnostic services in Whistler and Pemberton offer x-ray, laboratory and emergency care. These facilities are not open 24 hours a day. o Pemberton Health Care Centre is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the summer and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the winter. After hours a nurse and physician are on-call to look after emergencies. If you need help immediately you should call the ambulance service. Otherwise you can call 894-6939 and talk to the nurse. There are no beds for overnight care. o Whistler Health Care Centre is open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. After hours a physician and nurse are on call to look after emergencies. If you need help immediately call 911. Otherwise call 932-4911 and talk to the physician. There are not beds for overnight care. o Squamish General Hospital is open 24 hours a day, with nurses on site and a physician on call. The hospital offers x-ray, laboratory, labour and delivery services as well as some surgical services. The hospital has 25 beds for patients needing overnight care. Hilltop House is a continuing care facility located beside Squamish General Hospital. It has 20 beds for extended care, 30 beds for intermediate care, 10 bed special care unit for Alzheimer's patients and one respite bed. Coast Garibaldi Health has offices in each of the communities, providing a variety of services including: adult mental health services, public health nurses, home care nurses, occupational therapy, speech and language therapists, audiology services, environmental health services, community nutrition, dental hygienist and a continuing care case manager. Both Whistler and Squamish have healthy sexuality clinics offering counselling on sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy, and contraception.
