Tourism Whistler board picks two new directors

Kaile, Taber in

The board of Tourism Whistler appointed two new faces to its table this month, filling the gaps left by hotel managers who have taken jobs elsewhere.

The new general manager of the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, Michael Kaile, was appointed the single owner hotel lodging director.

Scott Taber, the general manager of the Four Seasons Resort Whistler, takes the second position on the board representing hotel lodging.

Kaile replaces former Chateau general manager Paul Tormey, who was recently promoted to regional vice-president and general manager of the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston.

Taber replaces the seat left by Les Pederson, former director of sales at the Westin Resort & Spa, who accepted a new position outside Whistler.

“We feel very fortunate to be joined by Michael and Scott — and we’re looking forward to working together in the coming months, to draw from their diverse experience, and continue to build the positive momentum of Whistler,” said Rick Clare, who chairs Tourism Whistler’s 13-member board of directors.

Seven of Tourism Whistler’s 13 board members are elected, while six are appointed. Kaile and Taber’s positions will be open for nominations in the spring at the election of directors during Tourism Whistler’s annual general meeting.

Clare added: “On behalf of the entire board, I would like to thank Paul Tormey and Les Pedersen — our outgoing board members — for their contribution and commitment to making Tourism Whistler a stronger organization.”
