Toys included with purchase of Aspen townhouse

In the mountain real estate business Aspen has long been considered the trend setter, the town with the highest prices, the first place with $1 million tear-downs, and the place where new levels of excess are found.

In the mountain real estate business Aspen has long been considered the trend setter, the town with the highest prices, the first place with $1 million tear-downs, and the place where new levels of excess are found.

As real estate agents prepare for the busy fall season there is a new standard being set in the Colorado resort this year: the first two buyers of units at the Maroon Estate Townhomes will receive a "five star toy chest."

The toy chest is full of Aspen-sized toys, including a 2003 Range Rover, worth about $72,000 US; a pair of two-year premier ski passes, good at all four Aspen ski areas; a pair of two-year season golf passes and a pair of Trek 5900 U.S. Postal Service team road bikes.

The toy chest also includes two $2,000 gift certificates for ski equipment from a local sports shop and two $2,500 gift certificates for retail and dining in Aspen Highlands Village.

Of course, you have to spend a little money to get the toy chest. The townhomes range from $4.7 million to $6.25 million. The units are about 6,100 square feet and include four bedrooms, five-and-a-half bathrooms and a two-car garage – just enough room for the Range Rover and the two Treks.

The broker for the sale of the first two townhouses also receives the toy chest, but receives cash instead of the Range Rover.
