The principal of the Surrey Traditional School will be addressing a group of traditional school proponents in Whistler Thursday, March 30. John Munson was invited to speak in Whistler by parents interested in the possibility of the new Spring Creek elementary school being run along the lines of the Surrey school. The new school is slated to open in September 2002. Proponent Susan Jernigan said Munson will be at the Catholic church community centre between 7 and 9 p.m. Refreshments, including wine and cheese, will be available. "It will be a sort of social question and answer period and a description of a traditional school and why they are so popular," said Jernigan. She added there are currently 370 students enrolled at the Surrey Traditional School, with another 800 on the waiting list. "I think this is also an opportunity for parents who haven’t had children in the system yet to come out and educate themselves on the options." Jernigan said parents who can’t find sitters are welcome to bring their kids.
