With a three-quarters full auditorium and a successful silent auction at Millennium Place last Friday, Trading Secrets – Debra Hillary’s documentary film project on indiginous people – moves on to the next stage.
With items ranging from recording time at Spirit Circle studios to Bill Reid cards in gold, the silent auction raised just over $2,000. Hillary says the funds raised will go towards editing film footage and further developing the pilot for Trading Secrets.
Whistler Mayor Hugh O’Reilly, local artists, and the general public formed the audience for the music and spoken word show. Audience members were greeted with the incense of cedar boughs at the entryway of the auditorium.
Highlights from the film trailer and the show at MY Place, including a live art installation by local acrylic artist Gavin Livingstone that sold for $250, will be featured on Whistler Cable 6 in the middle of December.
The show’s theme song Love Can Build a Bridge brought in audience participation with clapping and a third chorus rendition, while desserts by donation at intermission raised funds for art supplies at schools in the Mount Currie and Pemberton areas.
