BC Transit is inviting Whistler to have its say on proposed changes to three bus routes at an open house scheduled for this week.

On Wednesday, June 21, the public can provide feedback at several different locations around town on the proposed changes to the Route 1 Valley Connector, Route 2 Whistler Creek/Cheakamus and Route 3 Rainbow/Emerald.

The proposals are based on recommendations from BC Transit’s comprehensive Sea to Sky Transit Future Plan. Through the review, BC Transit found “numerous operational and customer understanding related challenges” with the Valley Connector, and given the “limited use” of the service through Whistler Village, recommended separating it into distinct routes. The proposal would separate service both south and north of the village into three distinct routes each.

If approved, it would be similar to what was in place before the Valley Connector was introduced in 2011, and, according to BC Transit, would come with “a number of benefits from operational, scheduling, and customer information perspectives.”

Overall, the goal is to “simplify the transit network and to continue growing transit ridership in Whistler,” according to a recent study of the Valley Connector.

The full Valley Connector review can be downloaded by clicking on the link included on the webpage for a BC Transit online survey, where the public can also offer input until June 28.

The open house is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Whistler Village Square by The Grocery Store; from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Village Gate Boulevard bus shelter; and from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Whistler Library.
